Within each of the eleven ECAW/Straight Up Writing stages, there are multiple writing products. Each product includes a specific set of targets. These targets are monitored via the web-based Proficiency Validation Plan (PVP).

Each student's PVP follows him or her from year-to-year and from teacher-to-teacher. This makes teaching and learning purposeful and consistent across the school or school district.
