Every Child a Writer (K-5) and Straight Up Writing (6-12) are stage-based programs.  Students are placed in the appropriate stage for instruction based on a prompted writing assessment scored using the ECAW Placement Rubrics

The first six stages in Every Child a Writer represent the kindergarten through fifth grade standards.  Each stage includes four standards-based writing products

Middle and high school standards include the five stages in Straight Up Writing.
